The 2017 “FLTRP CUP” English Public Speaking Qualifying Contest and English Speech Qualifying Contest for HHU students, was successfully wrapped up recently. Sponsored by Teaching Affairs Office of HHU and Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, they were hosted by this college. Mr. Ruan Huaining, Director of Teaching Affairs Office, attended the awarding ceremony and made remarks.
The preliminary opened on Oct.15th, attracting about 200 participants, 25 of whom were selected to compete in the final held in the lecture hall of Academy Conference Center, Jiangning campus, on the morning of Oct. 22nd. The final had two rounds, with contestants making speeches about given topics and answering questions posed by the judges in the first round. Then the top 6 contestants continued to the second round of impromptu speech and quick Q & A of general knowledge. Finally, 3 students were selected to take part in the semi-final of Jiangsu on behalf of HHU.
Every contestant gave their own views on the given topic and answered questions with ease in the first round. They made comparisons between Western and Chinese cultures and analyzed social conditions in detail, fully demonstrating their rich knowledge, great patriotism and wide social horizons of HHUers. At half time, wonderful entertainments prepared by this college greatly put both contestants and the audience at ease. In the second round, the top 6 contestants aired their unique opinions with good English skills, flexibility and adequate preparations. At the end of the contest, the judges made some comments and put forward suggestions to the contestants.
After the two round of fierce competitions, Liang Shuang from this college, Wang Lifei and Cao Miao from College of Environment won the first prize, Ye Tong, Hou Zhenrou from this college, Yang Shihui, Song Langrun from College of Environment, and Yi Yuwei from College of Business won the second prize and another 7 students took the third place, with 10 students winning the awards for excellence. Besides, Liangshuang was awarded with the Best Pronunciation, Liu Xingyan along with Song Langrun got the award for the Best Stage Appeal.
